PC McLean's Visit

As part of our Caring and Helping topic we had a visit from PC McLean.

He told us lots of things about his job

and showed us some of the special equipment that he uses.

He even let one of the children try on his coat and hat.

We all enjoyed his visit and found it very helpful.

October

End of term reward

For our end of term reward we had a visit from the animal man.

It was a very 'hands on' experience.

As you can see from the pictures, he brought quite a variety of animals with him.

Most people were really keen to hold or pet the animals.

Although some animals were more popular than others. We weren't too sure about the cockroaches to begin with!

More people wanted to stroke the chicken. It was called Nuggets.

Tilly the rabbit was also very popular.

We had to be very gentle with the animals.

 We had lots of fun.

We never got see the duck out of his cage as he was a little bit grumpy. The other animals were all fabulous and didn't mind being handled at all.

We had to use some special hand cleaner after we had been touching the animals.

In the afternoon we had another treat when we had crisps and juice in our breakout space.

 Making sandwiches

As part of our Technology and Writing work, we made a healthy banana sandwich.

We used light sunflower spread and wholemeal bread.

We had to work on our spreading, chopping and cutting skills using a plastic knife.
We did this very well and made some excellent sandwiches...

...which we then enjoyed tasting!

We had to concentrate very carefully while we were working because our next task was going to be writing about it!

We discussed what might be sensible openers for our instructions: First, Then, Next and Finally. Primary 2 had to use these openers in their writing.
Primary 1 had to sequence the instructions. They had some picture clues but also looked for the openers to help them.
