Food Technology in term 1

As part of our technology programme this term we made healthy banana sandwiches. Our class practised skills such as cutting, chopping, slicing and spreading. This activity also helped us to write instructions - we have been working on this at writing times recently. Actually making the sandwich helped us remember the steps we needed to include in our writing.

We can practise ordering instructions on this website that we use in class:

Visit from a Vet!

As part of our topic, Mr Snadden came to talk us about his job - being a vet! We learned all about his patients, what tools he uses and tasks he has to do to keep pets safe and well. Our class joined rooms 6 and 7 to hear Mr Snadden. What an interesting afternoon!

Six Dinner Sid

We have created a vets and pets shop in our class as part of our topic. We decided that we needed some information leaflets for customers to use. Here we are brainstorming our ideas using a carousel in our teams. We are working cooperatively with each other!

Gladigator Visit

Room 1 were lucky enough to have a visit from Mr Gladigator recently. He visited our school to talk to us about oral health. He was very impressed with how much we knew about caring for our teeth! We had great fun talking to him and playing on his inflatable run!

Trip to Pets at Home

While making our learning plan with Miss McCabe for our Six Dinner Sid topic, we decided a trip to a pet shop would help our learning. Miss McCabe organised a trip to Pets At Home.

Along with rooms 6 and 7, primary 2 from room 1 spent an afternoon with Paddy and Robert at the store. We were able to see all the animals and fish, go on a treasure hunt and take part in a workshop.

We had a fantastic afternoon and found out lots that will help answer our learnind questions! Murphy the Monkey and Barney Bear had a great time too!

Cooperative Team Challenge

Miss McCabe set each group in our class a Cooperative Work Challenge recently. We had to work in our groups to create a poster that would let any visitors to our class know what our group names are. It was quite difficult for us at first, but with a little help from Miss McCabe we were able to plan and create our posters.

Everyone had to listen and cooperate. We had a time keeper, a materials manager, an encourager and an air traffic controller at each group to make sure we were kept on task. Miss McCabe was impressed at our quiet voices and helping hands!

As well as designing the poster with each group name, primary 1/2 also made name hands. We succeeded in our challenge - Miss McCabe has attached our posters to our desks. Don't they look fantastic?!

Active Learning in room 1

As part of our Maths and Language programmes, we have lots of active learning activities. We enjoy lots of different things from using the computers and the Smartboard to using multilink and playing matching and bingo games. Room 1 is a great class with a water tray, sand tray and learning tent. Primary 1 have activity tables, and primary 2 have activity tables.

It is a great chance for us to work with different people in the class. Miss McCabe says we work very well at active learning times!

Primary 1 Buddies

Primary 1 from room 1 have loved getting to know our new primary 7 buddies! We are so grateful that they have taken time out of their busy days to help us. Look at who has been visiting our class!

Settling into School Life

Primary 1/2 have settled well into school life. We are all working hard and enjoying being in room 1! In our first week, we decided that we should have a set of rules for our class. This is to make sure it is a happy and safe place to learn each day. We want to be able to work and play happily together.

As well as thinking about how we work inside the class, we also thought about how we would behave outside the classroom. With Miss McCabe's help we chose our own 'quality indicators' to remind ourselves what our worktimes, listening times and lines should be like.Everyone who visits our class comments on how good we are at listening, working quietly and playing together co-operatively!

Primary 1 from our class have been helped to settle into school routines by their primary 7 buddies. They have enjoyed getting to know our buddies - the older children visited our class to read a story and they have also been playing games with us in the playground. When we went to the dinner hall for the first time our buddies gave some friendly reassurance and help when needed.
Look at the photos of our 'quality audience', 'quality line', 'quality work-time' and 'quality group-time'. We have been trying our very best!
