Term 3

We cannot believe term 3 is almost over!

Our class was set a challenge by the Friendly Dragon in January. We had to help him rebuild his home, Fairyland. We didn't hesitate to accept his challenge and we have been busy bees ever since. P1B have explored different Fairytales and completed LOTS of tricky writing. We have created some super art work, and taken part in very mature Circle Times - we have even learned about living things and planted bean plants. Our classroom definitely looks like Fairyland now! We are so proud of our hard work!

Alongside our friends from Room 2 and 4, Room 3 also hosted a Fairtrade Breakfast. As a mini enterprise linked to our major focus topic on Fairyland, we invited our friends and family to have breakfast with us. We wanted to raise awareness of Fairtrade farming and let our guests know why it is important. We explored and discussed our Rights, made information posters, and we created invitations. During our presentation we performed a song and played a slideshow that we thought delivered the Fairtrade message well.

Our school recently held it's annual 'World of Work' week. Primary 1B got the chance to learn about the 'world of work' from special visitors. We got the chance to chat about what employability skills we will need in the future. We had visits from a community worker, an HR manager and a firefighter. What an interesting few days we had listening to and questioning our visitors! We have also enjoyed Number Day with our families this term, and taken part in celebrations to remember Robert Burns.

Mrs Wallace and Mrs Ross are so proud of all of us. We have tried very hard this term! Please look at our SeeSaw pages to see pictures and videos of our wonderful work - Room 3 is just full of superstars!

Term 2

Term 2 is almost over and what a busy term it has been, jam-packed full of fun and new learning experiences!
We had a great time during Reading Week and were thrilled to participate in the numerous activities and trips! We learned about the processes of borrowing and buying books with visits to the local library and Waterstones. We explored different types of books and hear lots of stories. Our behaviour and manners were exemplary and our teacher was extremely proud of us all.

Our fun did not stop there! We also dressed up as our favourite reading characters and loved seeing everybody’s costumes. Also, we were given the opportunity to share and recommend our books during our whole-school book swap. Our Bookbug session with our class teacher, Mrs Ross, was so much fun too!

Lights! Camera! Action! After reading week, it was time to learn, practice and perform our nativity play for our huge audiences. We worked tirelessly to showcase our singing, dancing and acting talents and we did not disappoint! Our teachers were very proud of us and were were pleased with ourselves too!!

We are all looking forward to a well-deserved rest and some precious time with our families over the winter holiday period. Best wishes to all! See you next year!

Homework

..
Primary 1B will soon be given homework bags to take home. We are all so excited to be getting homework just like the big boys and girls! Inside our Primary 1 homework bags you will find:

*Homework diaries (these tell the adults at home what to do just incase we forget!)

*Word boxes (long strip of laminated words that can be sounded out)

*Tricky word ladders (on cardboard, strips stapled together)

*ORT word cards (inside our diaries, these are words we have to learn for our reading books - some of these cannot be sounded out)

*Jolly Phonics sounds cards (inside little poly bag)

*Mental maths activities

*Name cards (laminated with name to help with formation, size and placement of letters)

*Parents information booklets for Jolly Phonics

*Pairs game

*Returns wallet

*Any important letters from our teachers/ school office.

Mrs Wallace and Mrs Ross said we must try to remember our homework bags (with everything inside) everyday, because we sometimes use the materials in class. Primary 1 will work with ORT word cards, reading books, sound cards, word boxes and word ladders over the course of each week with Mrs Wallace and Mrs Ross. It is very important that we try not to lose any of the contents of our homework bags. Parents and carers should use the homework diary as a means of communication with our school, because our teachers check our diaries every day. Return slips from letters / money home should be put in our returns envelope.

P.E.

..
Room 3 will have gym on a Monday afternoon and a Thursday morning.
..

Please ensure suitable clothing is in school on both days (shorts, t shirt and indoor shoes). The children have trays in class where gym clothes can be stored (please label all gym clothes with your child's name). Shirts with small buttons and ties are notoriously hard for the children to manipulate when getting ready before and after P.E. If at all possible, we respectfully request that your child wears a polo shirt without a tie on gym days :-)
..

The children are not allowed to wear jewellery during P.E. lessons for health and safety reasons. Unfortunately school staff are not allowed to assist with taking out earrings, so if your child wears earrings on a gym day and cannot take them out/ tape them over unaided, they will not be able to participate in the lesson.

P7 Buddies

..
Primary 1B have been helped to settle into school routines by their Primary 7 buddies. We have enjoyed getting to know our buddies - the older children visited our class to read a story and they have also been playing games with us in the playground and at Golden Time. They came with us to the dinner hall at lunchtime - our buddies gave some friendly reassurance and help when needed. Primary 7 will also take us on a tour of the whole school soon!
We are so grateful that they have taken time out of their busy days to help us!

Wonderful Start to School Life!!

..
What a wonderful first couple of weeks! Primary 1B have settled well into school life. We are all working hard and enjoying being in room 3! On our first day, we decided that we should have a set of rules for our class. This is to make sure it is a happy and safe place to learn each day. We want to be able to work and play happily together.
..

As well as thinking about how we work inside the class, room 3 also thought about how we would behave outside the classroom. With Mrs Wallace and Mrs Ross' help we chose our own 'quality indicators' to remind ourselves what our work-times, listening times and lines should be like. Our Pupil of the Week always leads our line as they are able to set an excellent example! Everyone who visits our class comments on how good we are already at listening, working quietly and playing together co-operatively!
..

We have also been talking about the rights we have as children. Although this has been quite hard for us to think about, both our teachers say we are doing very well – our class has been able to think about ideas for our own class charter to go alongside our ‘qualities’.
..

Twiggle the Turtle has visited our class along with his friends Duke the Dog, Daphne the Duck and Henreitta the Hedgehog. Our new animal pals will help us learn about feelings and ways to stay calm, during special Circle-times.They will also teach us about how to be a good friend. Twiggle will choose a V.I.P. from room 3 each day, who will get to wear a special rosette and eat lunch at a special table in the dinner hall. Each V.I.P. will listen to compliments from their classmates when Twiggle chooses them. How lovely!!
..

Each week, a very special member of our class will get to visit somewhere exciting! Murphy the Monkey watches all week to see who has been working hard and trying their very best. He chooses who he would like to go home with for the weekend. We have looked at his photo diaries from previous years - we loved hearing about his adventures with other children! We are all hoping will come home with us soon!
