Room 3 Kirklandneuk

Friday 7 September 2012

Welcome to Primary 1/2

Primary 1/2, room 3

A very warm welcome to our class blog. Throughout the year we look forward to sharing news and photographs from our classroom. You are welcome to leave us a comment.

All of the children have settled well into room 3, impressing Mrs Ayres with their enthusiasm and effort. We have been very busy learning lots of new routines, making new friends and of course working very hard.

 Primary 7 buddies

The primary 1 children are especially lucky in our class. Not only do they have their primary 2 classmates, they have also got some fabulous buddies from primary 7.
The children have enjoyed visits from their buddies for story time, helping them settle into the lunch hall routines, a guided tour of the school and even for a playground litter pick!
We have really appreciated their help and reassurance.

We enjoy spending time with our buddies and look forward to visits with them throughout the year.

Active learning in room 3

Active learning is fun!
As part of our maths and language programmes, we have lots of opportunities to develop our skills through activities.

It is fun to work with our classmates on these activities and we are very good at sharing resources and helping each other.

It is always very busy in our classroom with so many things to learn about.

In maths we have been learning to sequence numbers. Mrs Ayres was really impressed with our counting and sequencing.

Caring and Helping

Our environmental studies topic this term is Caring and Helping, something that we already have lots of good ideas about!
We completed our learning plan with Mrs Ayres, suggesting of lots of things that we want to find out more information about.
We have chosen names for our cooperative working groups based on our topic.

Our first group task was to discuss wants and needs. We had to cut and stick some pictures under the correct heading. It was quite tricky deciding just how important some things are for keeping us healthy and safe or if they are just something that we like or want. We tried to link this to the rights of the child.
We worked really well in our groups, sharing the various jobs and helping each other when required.

Benjy the bear

We have a lovely, cuddly little friend in our class called Benjy the bear. He watches us working hard all week. He especially likes boys and girls who are good listeners and who can show him how to be a quality audience. Each Friday, Benjy likes to go home with one of the boys or girls for the weekend. He will choose someone who has been trying their very best to be his special person. All of the children in Primary 1/2 would very much like to be his special person. I wonder who it will be this week?
